Banners

Banners are horizontal bars that appear at the top or bottom of the page. They're great for announcements, promotions, and alerts that need visibility without blocking the user experience.

When to Use Banners

  • Announcing new features or updates

  • Promotional offers and discounts

  • System maintenance notices

  • Cookie consent or legal notices

  • Trial expiration reminders

  • Event or webinar promotions

Creating a Banner

1. Start a New Banner

  1. Go to Messages in the sidebar

  2. Click New Message

  3. Select Banner

  4. Choose a template or start from scratch

2. Configure Content

Message Text

Write your banner message. Keep it short and actionable:

Good examples:

  • "New: Dark mode is here! Try it now →"

  • "🎉 Black Friday: 50% off all plans"

  • "Scheduled maintenance on Dec 15, 10pm UTC"

Tips:

  • Keep under 100 characters for mobile

  • Include a clear call-to-action with a link in the text

  • Use emojis sparingly for emphasis

3. Customize Appearance

Position

  • Top - Fixed at the top of the viewport

  • Bottom - Fixed at the bottom

Colors

  • Background Color - Choose from preset colors or enter a hex code

  • Text Color - Ensure good contrast with background

Dismissible

  • On - Users can close the banner with an X button

  • Off - Banner persists until archived or targeting no longer matches

When dismissed, the banner won't appear again for that user.

4. Set Up Targeting

Switch to the Targeting tab to control who sees the banner.

Example: Show to Pro users only

  1. Add a rule: Contact Property → Plan → Equals → "pro"

Example: Show on specific pages

  1. Add a rule: Page → Page Path → Starts With → "/dashboard"

5. Schedule (Optional)

Set a time window for your banner:

  • Start Date - When to begin showing

  • End Date - When to stop automatically

Useful for time-limited promotions or scheduled announcements.

6. Publish

  1. Review your banner in the preview

  2. Click Publish to make it live

  3. The banner immediately appears to matching users

Best Practices

Design

  • Use high-contrast colors for readability

  • Keep text concise - mobile screens are small

  • Match your brand colors for consistency

Targeting

  • Don't show the same banner to everyone forever

  • Target specific user segments for relevance

  • Use page targeting for contextual banners

Timing

  • Use scheduling for promotions

  • Remove or archive after events end

  • Consider user timezone if relevant
